How much WorkOS costs
How WorkOS pricing works
WorkOS mostly monetizes by charging for SAML connections and SCIM connections. You can mostly understand a SAML connection to mean “one customer’s use of SAML.” Similarly, a SCIM connection mostly means “one customer’s use of SCIM.” One in a while, you’ll have multiple SAML/SCIM connections for a given customer, but this shouldn’t be too common.
WorkOS pricing also includes a few add-ons, like custom domains. These won’t likely make up a big chunk of your bill.
How much a SAML connection costs in WorkOS
As of October 2024, SAML connections in WorkOS cost $125/mo. That’s $1,500/yr… each. The average price might go down a bit with volume.
How much a SCIM connection costs in WorkOS
As of October 2024, SCIM connections in WorkOS cost $125/mo, just like SAML connections. That’s $1,500/yr… each. The average price might go down a bit with volume.
WorkOS pricing changes
WorkOS pricing over time
WorkOS has changed its pricing several times over the past few years. In general, the trend has been for prices to climb. Using the Wayback Machine, we can track down previous iterations of WorkOS’s pricing.
I’ve captured below the price for a single SAML single sign-on (SSO) connection, over time:
There have been a few subtle changes over the years, but there’s one change that’s hard to ignore. Between May 2022 and February 2023, the price for one SAML connection increased by 155%.
WorkOS pricing in April 2020
Back in April 2020, WorkOS’s pricing had three tiers: “Free,” “Developer,” and “Corporate.”
It’s a little bit confusing what goes in each bucket. But it looks like you could get SAML SSO for free, upgrade for Okta SCIM, and then upgrade again for some extra features.
Here’s what it looked like:
WorkOS pricing in June 2021
By the summer of 2021, things had changed a little bit. WorkOS’s pricing had two tiers: a pay-as-you-go Standard tier and an Enterprise tier.
Under that model, a single SAML connection to an enterprise customer cost $49 / month. SCIM and custom branding were broken out separately at $49 and $499 per month, respectively.
Here’s what it looked like:
WorkOS pricing in February 2023
By the beginning of calendar year 2023, WorkOS’s pricing had again changed. The Enterprise tier had disappeared. The pay-as-you-go plan looked a little different.
Instead of charging $49/mo for a SAML connection, WorkOS had started charging $125/mo! That’s a 155% increase.
Here’s what it looked like:
WorkOS pricing in October 2024
As of October 2024, WorkOS’s pricing is pretty much the same as it was in 2023. Things are just broken out a little more clearly. Each SAML connection still costs $125/mo. Each SCIM connection still costs $125/mo. In total, a pretty standard enterprise customer costs about $3,000/yr. That’s a lot.
Here’s how things look as of mid-October 2024:
